BGSIT Library is an Outstanding Knowledge dissemination center to develop competent professionals for the benefit of mankind.

Mission

The BGSIT Library & Information Center is an important learning resource center with open access system encouraging the user to browse freely in the stock area. The library is housed in a spacious block. Presently library has 33,448 volumes of books and periodicals/magazines. The library comprises of reference section, periodical section, stock area, digital library with internet facility. Library also has collection of newspapers; journals back volumes, competitive exam books, GATE question papers and University question papers and syllabus of all the branches. The Library & Information Center of BGSIT facility has obtained no deficiency report from the AICTE/LAC Local Assessment Committee (LAC) for all the assessed years. To enhance the efficiency of library operations, the center is automated with Koha software to provide speed service to the library users.

Relevance of availability learning resources including e-Resources

The Institution has taken up membership from DELNET, NDLI, and Institute of Engineers India for enabling utilization of e-resources. The databases acts as a single-window service for Technical Institutions with their diverse research and academic interests. These e-resources can be accessed through IP based in the campus through web addresses. The various e-resources that can be accessed by the faculty and student members are presented in section.

Accessibility to students

Library& Information Center has an intranet OPAC facility for users to search the required content through the OPAC, computer and internet facility is provided in Library& Information Center where students can access different types of learning resources. Library has adopted open access system for stockholders to browse freely the books, e-books/e-journals through Wi-Fi facility across the library. The learning resource center is kept open from 8:30am to 9:30pm (9 hours a day) for usage, it will be extended basis on request of the users.

Support to students for self-learning activities

Digital Library: The Institution has set up DSpace Digital Library with 25 computers having adequate internet connectivity for navigating. The objective of this facility is to support self-learning activities. Institution has purchased local guru system for managing NPTEL videos. System covers more than 20,000 videos of different streams in engineering. These videos serve as a supplement to classroom teaching and learning activities. One can access the videos in the entire campus without internet, in addition e- resources from IEEE, ProQuest. Swayam, MOOC, NDL (National Digital Library), DELNET (Developing Library Network), INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network Centre), IEI (Institute of Engineers) and others open access portals.

Library Service’s:

Text books:

Text books are most reliable source of information to the Faculty and the Students of B G S Institute of Technology especially for course/syllabus related reading. The section has approximately 33,448 syllabus related text books. The books for this section are purchased generally on the recommendation from different faculty members through the concerned Head of the Department. The timings for issuing the books from the Text Book Section are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM during Monday to Friday. The books of this section may be returned back during 9 AM to 5 PM only. A total no. 3 of books are issued from the section at a time.

Reference:

Readers may approach the Reference and Membership Desk for information or any assistance in the use of the Library Collections and Services. Users may contact Computer Applications Division for the computerized services, CD ROM Based Search Services and Web-based electronic journals. For special information requirements, users may also reach incharges of Readers Services/Serials Division or the Librarian.

Periodical:
A good number of journals and magazines both technical and general in nature are subscribed to library. Latest issues will be displayed as and when received.

Bibliographic:
The library has prepared a list of Reference Books for the benefit of user community. Booklet containing the details of all reference oriented documents will publish.

CD-ROM:
The CD-ROMs received along with books/journals/conferences are available in the Reference Section and the facility can be availed from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on all working days.

Inter-Library Loan (ILL):
The books of our library will be sent to various our institute libraries on Inter Library Loan as per the request from our institute Libraries. The library also used to get some books Inter Library Loan basis from other our institute libraries as request by our users.

Photostat copy:
The Library has entrusted the responsibility of extending Xerox facility inside the Library. The Library document will be xeroxed within the Library for the benefit of the users.

Newspaper clippings:
Important and relevant information published in dailies will be displayed on library notice board regularly and the same will be updated once in a month on library website.

Question bank:
Previous years ACU Question papers are arranged subject wise in multiple copies and will be provided to users to take photocopies on request. The soft copy of question papers are available on library website which is downloadable.

Plagiarism Check:
Users are requested to note the following guidelines frame to avail plagiarism check services the library is using “DrillBit” plagiarism checker software to get the percentage of similar contents already published in various online information sources. While submitting the soft copy of the documents for check with plagiarism prevention software.

Library Automation:
Now-a-days Library Automations are considered as a powerful tool for any type of library to make its services very easy and relatively reliable to access the resources. The Library Automation of different kinds with powerful features are available in the market; which can also be used in academic library in order to promote library activities and services for the benefit of academic fraternity and research output. We done Automations successfully with help of Koha in B G S Institute of Technolgy.

Web OPAC:

Online Public Access Catalouge: OPAC contains over 34,000 bibliographic records, with more records being added on a daily basis. It is one of the most widely used databases of the library and is accessible 24×7 via library web page. Besides listing all the documents available in the library, it allows on-line renewal and reservation, circulation, fine collection, and indicates status of a particular book. The OPAC is searchable & allows users searching by any combination of author, title, subject/keywords, accession number, subject and several other fields of methods.
