Dr. B.N. Shobha brings in a wealth of experience and a distinguished record of
achievement to her role as Principal of BGS Institute of Technology. With a remarkable
30-year career, she has not only nurtured young minds but also actively pursued
cutting-edge research, leaving a significant mark on the academic landscape.
Dr. Shobha's dedication to research is evident in her impressive publication record. She
has authored & co-authored 20 International journal articles which presented her work
at 9 International Conferences and 28 National Conferences and contributed to 7
publications in the SAS Tech Journal. Her research extends beyond theoretical
exploration, as evidenced by her success in securing funding grants. These include the
KSCST STI grant and the AICTE MODROB grant, totalling nearly 12 lakhs. This funding has
fuelled her innovative spirit, leading to the development of ground breaking solutions.
Dr. Shobha's passion for innovation is further reflected in her establishment of the AICTE
IDEA Lab at BGSIT, a testament to her commitment to fostering a culture of creativity
and practical problem-solving. Her vision extends beyond the institute walls, as
demonstrated by her role in establishing a Ground Station for Satellite Communication,
a project with far-reaching implications. Dr. Shobha's intellectual curiosity is further
underscored by her five patents, spanning diverse fields like wireless sensor networks,
medical diagnostics using deep learning and even artificial intelligence-driven
astronaut shoe design.
Dr. Shobha's expertise extends far beyond research. She is a highly respected figure
within the academic community, evidenced by her membership in five professional
bodies and she is an elected member for two terms of the Institution of Engineers
(India) Karnataka state centre. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom, with her
involvement as member in over 20 councils, committees and boards. Dr. Shobha's
dedication to academic excellence is further recognized by the 15 academic, research
and administration awards she has received. She is a sought-after speaker, having
delivered 18 International and National invited talks and lectures.
